Tame Your Frizzy Hair in 3 Steps

Frizzy hair! Don’t we all hate it? They make us look unkempt and disheveled and not to mention un-pretty. Especially in this cruel Summer hair becomes all the more unmanageable. Who doesn’t want a silky, healthy, beautiful mane all year round?  It took me years to finally find that perfect solution for my hair and since then there has been no looking back.

Let me first explain my hair type. I have naturally straight, medium-thick, brownish-black, normal hair. So as you see my hair is not the worst kind imaginable. In the last few summers I experienced a lot of frizziness and dryness and always had to resort to hair straightening even for meaningless occasions. I hate depending on unnatural means even for my hair and that’s why I set on a mission to eradicate my tiny frizz problem. I tell you this story, because it is entirely possible that people with extreme frizz problems may not benefit much from my tips. But then again they are free and safe, so there is no harm trying ;)

There are millions of ways to treat hair frizz. You can get hold of home remedies. You can buy tons of hair products. But the best way, my way, is to do it simply that can be carried easily forever. I am sharing 3 Steps that may help tame your frizz:

1 Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner.  Cheap shampoos seldom work in giving your hair that shine and exuberance. Know your hair type and hair needs. If your hair is oily, shampoos for dry hair may not be that effective. If your hair is damaged, only shine-inducing shampoos won’t work. I personally use L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5. L’Oreal Paris and Garnier Fructis have a pretty amazing range of shampoos and conditioners. I’d recommend finding something suitable for your hair there. For conditioning I use Sunsilk Straight and Sleek Nourishing Conditioner. Dove and Schwarzkopf also has a nice range of conditioners.
When you shampoo your hair let it stay for 3-5 minutes. The shampoo needs to do its work. We all make the mistake of rinsing it out as soon as we massage it in.
Condition only the end three-fourth of your hair, concentrate especially on your roots, leave for 2-3 minutes. If you condition the scalp you make it oily and that is when your hair starts to appear limp.

2 After the wash, keep your wet hair wrapped up in a towel for 10-15 minutes. NEVER brush wet hair! Besides breaking hair, it adds to the frizz. Towel-wrapping helps your hair settle while gently absorbing the excess water instead of roughening hair follicles which happens in the case of towel-drying.

3 Apply a frizz controlling hair serum! I use John Freida Frizz-Ease Hair Serum. You can also use a serum by Schwarzkopf. Then let your hair air dry. In case of extremely frizzy hair, pulling your half-dried hair into a bun also helps in taming the flyaways.

IMPORTANT
Avoid heat styling your hair as much as you can. Heat damage contributes the most in fraying your hair. If you must then use a GOOD heat-protecting spray. I curl/iron my hair very seldom (once a month, perhaps). I love the natural look of my hair and prefer keeping it alive. Love your hair the way it is! Trust me I have seen people with the most beautiful straight hair or most bewitching curls torturing it with ironing each day of a month.

Disclaimer: This is how I treat my hair to a frizz-free form. Everyone has different hair; so it is not necessary what works for me may definitely work for you too.
